What's so special?

Founded in 1987, this is one of Belize most famous marine reserves, in the northern part of Belize just east of Ambergris Caye. The park encompasses a portion of the Belize Barrier Reef where there is a small channel in the reef, or "Hol Chan" in Maya, sea grass beds and also mangroves, both which are important nursery and feeding areas for juvenile fish.  Since it is a marine protected area there are large schools of fish, and there are also resident green sea turtles that feed on the turtle grass.  There are also nurse sharks and spotted eagle rays and southern sting rays that pass by.

We leave from our dock and go direct by boat to Hol Chan Marine Reserve passing by the barrier islands that lie just inside the Belize Barrier Reef.  The hour long ride goes by very quickly as we look for dolphins, manatees and tropical birds.  This is one of our popular combo trips and we can take snorkelers and divers on the same boat.

On the boat ride back to port you'll be able to reflect on all the amazing underwater sites and begin to plan your week stay in Belize so you can dive the other great spots along the Belize Barrier Reef, Turneffe and Lighthouse.

The Sites

Dive Hol Chan
The trip provides an excellent opportunity for divers to explore the beauty of the Belize Barrier Reef in a shallow protected environment.  Occasionally there are days when there is a strong current running out of the channel and your dive leader will make sure you do not venture out too far. Once we arrive at Hol Chan your divemaster will brief you on the dive plan, assist you in donning your gear and getting into the water, then leading your dive in the cut at Hol Chan Marine Reserve.  Be sure to bring our camera as this is a great place for taking superb underwater photos!

Snorkel Shark Ray Alley
Here you'll snorkel with schools of jacks, nurse sharks and southern stingrays.  In July 2011 Belize law passed legislation that full protects all nurse sharks in Belize!

Quick stop on Caye Caulker
Sightseeing at Caye Caulker before heading back to Belize City.  Next stop will be Caye Caulker where you can explore the "Go Slow" way of life here on one of Belize's most popular island destinations.
